A widespread species. Fast coloniser of bare sites on sandy soils including subsoils. Valuable in native seed mixes in combination with slower growing species such as kangaroo grass, which don't provide such rapid soil stabilisation.

A very attractive grass, the pink and mauve inflorescences appear strikingly similar to those of lavender.
